    Consulted on several Web applications for an award-winning vendor of digital asset management software. Guided the design process, leading product design and strategy discussions. Provided expertise on usability trade-offs; layout and workflow analysis; and written and wireframe recommendations. Redesigned workflows, screen layouts, and look & feel.

  • IDC Inc., Natick, MA (2005-)

    Analyzed authoring tools, development tools, Web technologies, and enterprise collaboration software. Wrote product overviews and analyses including an exploration of Ajax and Remote Scripting and product flashes for Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Macromedia Studio 8. Advised representatives of the press on product launches, updates, and technologies.

  • Tour for the Cure, Cambridge, MA (2006-)

    Designed an interactive Web site for Tour for the Cure using DHTML techniques in combination with OpenLaszlo and Flash. Features include an interactive, data-driven map, an RSS-backed photoblog, and a Flash videoblog.

  • OAT Systems, Waltham, MA (2004-2005)

    Designed Web applications for a provider of RFID middleware. Led design meetings to determine product navigation and workflows. Designed screen layouts. Created interactive, database-backed mockups and demos in DHTML. Designed product graphics, branding elements, and look & feel. Worked with the development team to determine implementation details.

  • Improbable Research, Cambridge, MA (2005-)

    Performed a high-level redesign of the improbable.com Web site. Customized the Wordpress blogging system with a new look & feel, custom plug-ins, management tools, and scripts to automate integration of legacy content into the new site.

  • ActBlue, Cambridge, MA (2004)

    Led the initial design process for ActBlue's site (not yet live) through intensive discussions with ActBlue management. Guided ActBlue in determining navigation, high-level functionality, and screen layout. Presented and refined design options as wireframes and specification documents.

  • YBP Library Services, Contoocook, NH (2001-2004)

    Redesigned YBP's flagship product. Gobi, an extensive Web application, allows libraries to locate, select, and order books. Led design meetings; coordinated with management, bibliographers, and developers; designed product navigation; created wireframes and interactive mockups; wrote behavioral specifications; redesigned Gobi's logo and look & feel; conducted usability tests. Also designed a new application using DHTML techniques to incorporate complex, interactive data displays and to permit fast, global design changes.

  • Argo Technology, Newton, MA (2003)

    Provided design leadership for a new product providing unified information management to consumers. Led meetings with Argo founders to design high-level functionality, front-end architecture, and layout. Helped identify goals and probable user workflows; presented and refined design options.

  • R2 Consulting, Contoocook, NH (2003)

    Designed R2's Web site. Wrote templates and style sheets that allowed R2 to maintain and extend their own site. Provided training in Adobe GoLive.

  • MetLife eCommerce, Boston, MA (2000)

    Designed user interfaces for MetLife Web and intranet applications. Performed usability reviews of existing interfaces. Led brainstorming sessions and design meetings; created sketches and mockups; wrote specifications; worked with developers and graphic designers to guide the design process.

    Faculty Research Assistant: Evaluated, designed, and implemented new information visualization technologies. Co-authored a paper for conference submission. Created the Web site for a zooming graphical Java toolkit using DHTML. Designed a zooming presentation tool.

  • Human Computer Interaction Group, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (1995, 1998)

    Research Associate: Designed media-rich software environments. Projects included a digital library for secondary schools; a collaborative Web annotation tool; and an interactive handheld assistant for museum exhibits. Conducted usability evaluations of software and research. Led software design sessions with children. Co-authored a paper on mobile technology.

  • TextWise, LLC, Syracuse, NY (1996, 1997)

    User Interface Designer (Summer internship): Worked with Prof. Gary Marchionini (now at UNC Chapel Hill) to design the user interface for an advanced information retrieval system. Designed and created a dynamic information-seeking and visualization tool. Designed a workplace collaboration system.
