iWebCal: Quick Start

Getting your calendar into iWebCal

  1. Create your calendar. Use iCal or another program that supports the vCalendar file format (such as Mozilla Calendar) to create or import your calendar information.
  2. Upload your calendar to a Web server. You don't need .Mac, WebDAV, or anything else special. Any Web server will do. iCal stores your calendars in your home directory at ~/Library/Calendars.
  3. Type your calendar's address into the box above, and click Go. The address will probably be something like http://mywebsite.com/MyCalendar.ics.

That's it! Once your calendar appears, you can bookmark it for quick access in the future. That way you can go there directly, instead of visiting this page first.

Viewing calendars with subscribe links

If you find an iCal calendar on a Web site (such as the calendar libraries listed above) you can view it in iWebCal, even if the only link to it is a "Subscribe" link.

  1. Find the calendar. Locate the link to the calendar file. Often the link will say "Subscribe," and it will always be to a file that ends in .ics. (You can see the file at the bottom of most browser windows when you move the mouse over the link.)
  2. Copy the link. In many browsers, you can right-click (or control-click on the Mac) on the link and select Copy to Clipboard, Copy Shortcut, or an equivalent command from the menu that appears. If that option isn't available, you may have the move the mouse over the link and copy it down by hand from the bottom of the browser window. Luckily, you'll only need to do this once.
  3. Paste the link into the box above, and click Go. (If you copied it down by hand you'll have to type it.)

That's it! Once the calendar appears, bookmark it so you don't have to go through this process again.

Example Calendars

There have been a few requests for sample calendars to demonstrate iWebCal. The following examples are from Apple's calendar library, and can also be viewed by copying the calendar links there and pasting them into iWebCal:

You can also see from these examples how iWebCal creates a permanent address for a calendar.
